Spring Fling with Melbourne Races

When talking about spring races what girl wouldn't want to get all dressed up and look her best for a day full of sun, champagne, friends oh and lets not forget the horses.

For those of you who have never been to the Melbourne Spring Carnival, this is a must do at least once in your life. For those of you who have never been to Melbourne, Tisk Tisk. For the rest of you who have been and go religiously every year, you know what I mean when I say its the highlight of the year. This once a year carnival is a must for every fashion conscious girls social calendar.

With Melbourne Spring Fashion week strategically placed before the racing carnival begins there are hundreds of hot new outfits for fashionistas to choose from. But even with a new dress, fascinator, shoes, earrings, necklace just to name a few some girls still get it so wrong.

The races are a timeless event, and I have found that a majority of the time when dressing for the races simplicity wins out over girls who go over the top. There are so many elements to a racing outfit, yes you should match everything from your dress to your nails and everything in between, but if you don't cross every t and dot every i with simple timeless beauty you may just have yourself a cringe worthy outfit.
If you have a black dress try going for accessories with a pop of colour and vice versa if you have colourful dress even out the look with black/cream/silver accessories. Alternatively if you are wearing black, and you want to lighten it match it with a black and white fascinator or hat, this also works well with a cream dress.

The Melbourne races are all about the headpieces, they can either make or break the outfit. When choosing a headpiece think carefully whether the style suits your face and if it will suit the hair style you have in mind. There are many different styles out there so be bold and go for something different.

The spring racing carnival it a time for fun and glamour, have fun with your out fit, but remember to be wise with your choices, don't flock to all the shiny bright thing you see in the stores. Classic timeless beauty is the key.

Super Stylish peeps - Boho Chic

We all have that one uber stylish friend that whatever she puts on, whether it be a brand new dress from Scanlan and Theodor or a Vintage 70's dress from Salvation Army, they just exasperate a sense of style that cannot be taught.

Julz has always had impeccable style from the moment I met her in high school, she has always had a keen eye for vintage pieces. Over the years I have seen her style go from the teenage version of shabby chic to a more refined vintage style that is envied by all.

The key to Julz style is a mix of Vintage and new, playing with different fabrics and textures, rarely steping out without a pair of shades.

Her wardrobe staples are a must for every fashion conscious woman;

A pair of black skinny jeans; they can be the answer to all our prayers on those days we wake up late or when we have "nothing to wear".

A well tailored blazer; this is good for work purposes, a date with that cute guy you have always wanted to ask out (just be sure to wear a sexy top underneath, something with a bit of bling perhaps) or even an afternoon lunch with the girls. Dress it up with killer heels and shimmery top or dress it down like the pic below with a scarf.

The little black dress; A must must must for all of us women. We all know that black is slimming and having a little black dress in our wardrobe will be the answer to all our dramas. Especially when the dress the you have had your heart set on all week "makes you look fat". Dress it up with some killer heels and chunky accessories and you certainly wont look "fat" anymore.

The Floppy Felt hat; we all need one. Paired up with a chucky knit on winters day or a maxi dress in spring its the perfect accessorie when you feel like being that little bit different, or having a bad hair day.

The Chunky Knit; try going for something a little different when you purchase your next chucky knit. Like Julz in the pic below, don't get your typical boring knit, get a knit with a graphic to catch everyone's eye. Find one that you can just throw on or belt up and wear as a feature.

Fur; now I know what a lot of you are going to say about having a real fur in your wardrobe, but fear not, there great fakes out there these days or you can be a little different have get some feathers (looks just as stylish). But it's still a wardrobe staple and prefect for keeping you warm on those cold winter nights.

The shift; I feel that this is on par with the little black dress. If you have a well tailored shift then you can work it for most occasions. You can dress it up for a night on the town or you can wear it to work or out to lunch when everything else you own is in the wash.

Sunglasses; everyone needs at least one pair of sunglasses that no matter how you look that day, they make you look 100% better. But I believe we should all aspire to have as many vintage and new shades as Julz.

Bright is the Key

Colour blocking is not a new trend, but it is back with a BANG. Bright colour's are what makes this trend look modern so go for emeralds, purples, oranges or fuchsias. This trend allows you to match colour's that in the past were taboo together; they now make for a dynamic confident look.

This trend works best with blocks of solid colour's so know your body shape and use the bright's to work it. Colour blocking looks fab on an hourglass figure, so to extenuate your best assess and emphasize a small waist line, cut the look in half with two colour's the same intensity. If you have a pear shape try a dark on the bottom half and vice versa to minimise a larger bust.

For a more sophisticated look match a bright back with neutrals, such as caramel, cream, grey or white so your office ready. Alternatively you can try a different style of blocking by using two shades within the same family, eg. royal blue and purple.

Don't just stick with colour blocking your clothes, play around with bright accessories and nail varnish to complete your look.

Playful bracelets from Forever New

Some great colour's to inspire you. So go out there and get colour blocking.

The begining

As I try to think of what to type for my very first blog entry I get a little nervous. It is something that I have wanted to establish for a long time, I now have the opportunity to do it. Fashion is and always will be apart of who I am, whether it be obsessing over a the new trends around the world or thinking constantly about new designs that I can create. I am blessed with the opportunity to travel the world and with each new destination that I embark on I am greeted with a buzz of different cultures and trends.

In this blog I want to show you a first hand view of the styles, trends, fashion and quirks from our peers around the world. I want to show you that you don't have to be wearing the latest fashion or spend a fortune to be stylish, anyone can buy fashion but not everyone has style.

Here I will introduce you to my style icons as well as fashionistas from all walks of life. I will document as manys styles and trends from around the world for you to be inspired to blend it with your own. I hope you enjoy reading and keeping updated as much as I enjoy writing. x

"I think the idea of mixing luxury and mass-market fashion is very modern - wearing head-to-toe designer has become a bit passe. It's a new era in fashion - there are no rules. It's all about the individual and personal style, wearing high-end, low-end, classic labels, and up-and-coming designers all together". - Alexander McQueen
